Spend Small Business Saturday In Downtown Lafayette

Lafayette, LA – Once the Thanksgiving feast is done, Downtown Lafayette wants to remind shoppers of a significant day on the calendar: Small Business Saturday.

With a wide variety of locally owned retail stores selling everything from bicycles and outdoor gear, to home decor and records — Downtown Lafayette is a holiday shopping destination where there is truly something for everyone.

“We all hear about the incredible deals on Black Friday at major stores, as well as the online sales during Cyber Monday on websites like Amazon, but many people still do not know about Small Business Saturday,” Anita Begnaud, CEO of Downtown Development Authority and Downtown Lafayette Unlimited said. “This day is a reminder for people to go out and support local businesses run by your neighbors, colleagues, and friends – people who live, work, and raise their families in our community.”

Begnaud continued, “Our small businesses are the backbone of Lafayette’s downtown district, so it is imperative that when we plan our holiday shopping that intentionally spread the love (and our dollars) to local shops and restaurants.”

This year, Small Business Saturday is on Saturday, November 28th, right after Black Friday and before Cyber Monday. Small Business Saturday was first observed on November 27, 2010, and promoted by American Express as a way for individuals to patronize brick and mortar businesses at the kick-off of the holiday shopping season.

Robin Thibodeaux is one of the many store owners looking forward to Small Business Saturday. Her shop DBR Designs, formally known as Designs By Robin, officially opened in August. In addition to interior and exterior design services, the showroom offers a large selection of local art, custom bedding, lamps and lighting, silk plants, and more. “DBR is truly excited to be a part of the resurgence of retail and restaurant establishments in Downtown Lafayette,” Thibodeaux said. “Shop local — shop downtown! Keep Lafayette strong!”

By shopping at local stores on Small Business Saturday — and any day of the year for that matter — you are supporting families and friends from your community.

Local artist and ADORN retail shop owner Adrian Guidry said, “It’s important to support local businesses every year, but especially this one.” Guidry continued, “By shopping in Downtown Lafayette, you’re not only buying a unique gift, you’re supporting individuals who took a chance on their dreams and work with passion every day. You are helping local stores continue to thrive and stay in business.”
