What is Student Dance Day Workshop?
A free, community workshop that connects kids and teens through the art of dance, shares diverse dance styles, fosters camaraderie among local dancers, and exposes the physical and mental health benefits of dance for all ages. The workshop will take place in Downtown Lafayette at the Acadiana Center for the Arts and Basin Arts. The Showcase performance will take place at the Lafayette Middle School Auditorium. Who is it for?
The workshop is open to any young dancer looking to expand their dance experience. The workshop is geared towards students 10+. The Showcase performance is open to local dance studios to perform one piece. Studios participating in the Showcase are required to also participate in the workshop.
Schedule for the day
Participant check-in, 8:30-9:00am (ACA)
Welcome Activities – 9:00-10:00am (ACA)
Professional Dance Master Class with Basin Dance Collective, 10:00-12:00pm (Basin Arts)
Breakout Seminars- 11:00-12:00pm (ACA)
A roundtable discussion with dance studio owners & teachers led by Grace Mayfield of Hamilton Academy of the Arts.
A seminar for dance parents about the opportunities for dancing after high school (college study, dancing professionally, other related career paths in the arts) led by Paige Krause from the Acadiana Center for the Arts and Marie Broussard from the UL Dance Department.
Health & Wellness Symposium / Brown Bag lunch – 12:00-1:00pm (ACA)
BREAK – 1:00-2:00pm
Student Dance Showcase tech rehearsals at Lafayette Middle School Auditorium – 2:00-4:00pm
Performance at Lafayette Middle School Auditorium – Doors open 5:00pm, Show starts 5:30pm, open to the public.
