For Robert Dafford, Downtown is a labor of love – a product of hard work from talented visionaries and artists. It is the place where he lives, works and creates.
"I have worked on Downtown projects all over the country for 40 years - I chose to and like living in this one. Most of those downtowns aren't nearly as far along as we are," said Dafford.
As the artist responsible for Downtown's many iconic murals, Robert is proud to be a part of Downtown's continued cultural evolution. One of his fondest memories was when DDA started with Phil Lank and Cathy Webre in the early80s. "We were all so energized about creating the Downtown that we envisioned. Downtown Alive! was one of the first events that made everyone come together on the streets again. I was a founding member of the Artist Alliance, and we spent many hours of 1985 restoring the old hardware store,"said Dafford.
