Jim Phillips & Crystal Place Presents They’re Gonna Put You In The Movies – Summer Camp Jim Phillips & Crystal Place will present They’re Gonna Put You In The Movies – Summer Camp, featuring motion picture production – scripts, storyboards, shot composition and directing, acting and improv, storytelling and performance - for ages 7 to 17, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. every week in July – July 2-6, 9-13, 16-20 and 23-27 - at Cité des Arts, 109 Vine St. in downtown Lafayette.
Jim Phillips and Crystal Place are proud to collaborate, together bringing years of experience in motion picture production, storytelling, writing, and acting to They’re Gonna Put You In The Movies – Summer Camp. Each week long camp provides opportunities to get involved in the process of movie production and to get experience on both sides of the camera. The opportunities to develop their creative skills and for personal growth are limitless.
Friday of each week, there will be a World Premiere of the work produced during their week of camp. The work involves Improv games, acting and production skill workshops, telling their own stories and performing.
Jim Phillips is a veteran educator and the education director of Cité des Arts. "I work with people all over the country, and there's no one quite like Jim Phillips,” said Ken Waldman, Alaska’s "Fiddling Poet.” "Artist/manager/director/producer….he has the energy of a half dozen people, and he certainly knows how to inspire. I recommend him most highly.”
Crystal Place has a long resume in film and TV production. She is a freelance Producer/Director, but has played the role of nearly every job on set - from lighting to voice over work. She brings experience from the worlds of documentaries, short and feature films, corporate and non-profit videos, commercials and television shows, and though her long nationwide work list speaks to her professionalism and experience, she considers her work one of her best forms of play.
The fee for the camp is $175, supplies and snacks are included. For those who want to purchase lunches, Cité des Arts presents Conscious Cuisine Healthy Lunch Option Conscious Cuisine provides healthy organic meals for kids prepared by local chef Betsy Mitchell. Lunches include multigrain breads, tortillas and wraps, homemade pizza sauces and dips for veggie snacks, and baked goods prepared with nutrient rich ingredients like fresh flax seed powder and vegetable purees. And we can't forget the delicious treats like her Red Velvet Cupcakes that use beet juice for the red color and a little sweetness. Prices are $6 per lunch, with gluten-free options available.
